50 Years—50 Stories: The Odd Couple Team

The Odd Couple Team (Keller-Williams Integrity Realty) may be relatively new to Grand Avenue, but their strong impact has been felt through their continued support of Grand Avenue and the Grand Avenue Business Association. The Odd Couple Team has sponsored many of the great activities you enjoy during several of Grand Avenue's events — from the tree lighting ceremony at Grand Meander to pony rides at BooFest. They are always willing to step forward to help make Grand Avenue and its event special. The entire team volunteers for Grand Old Days and Jason has served on the board and several key committees.

Below is an interview with Jason Koenig, CFO, Realtor/Agent for the Odd Couple Team.

How long have you had your business on Grand Avenue?
Our physical storefront has been on the Avenue since October 2014.

Why did you choose to locate to Grand Avenue?
The Odd Couple Team has been involved with Grand Avenue Business Association since 2002.  Because the neighborhoods surrounding Grand Avenue are the heart of our business, it only made sense to be involved and move our location to the Avenue.

What do you like about Grand Avenue?
Since I was a small child, Grand Avenue has always been  My favorite destination.  I remember going to Bober Drug with my Grandmother, getting breakfast at the Uptowner with my Grandfather and participating in the Grand Old Day run each year with my dad. Grand Avenue is a destination for everything!  Shopping, dining, living and any service you can imagine.  As an adult I am honored to be a part of a community I loved so much as a child.

What is the evolution of your business?
Shane Montoya started our business in 2001 at Edina Realty on Grand where he fell in love with the avenue.  A changing real estate climate in 2008 brought him to Keller Williams Integrity Realty in Roseville (This was the closest office to Grand Avenue). I joined the business in 2009.  We both had a goal to move the business back to the Grand Avenue.  In 2013 when the former Grand Addictions building went on the market we saw an opportunity. A chance to move to the avenue and gentrify a historic building on the avenue that was in need of a little TLC.  We became the first Keller Williams satellite office in Saint Paul proper.  We have been  blessed to be welcomed with such positivity from neighbors and business owners alike.  We are excited to see what the next 50 years holds!

What is it that you like the most about owning/operating your business?
The boutique feel.  I like the family feel of our team of 9—we are so grateful to have such great business partners and great clients.

What about this business are you the most passionate?
We are in the business of helping people achieve their real estate goals. Nothing is more gratifying. Every transaction is different and we love helping our clients navigate that process.

What are you most proud of and why?
We are most proud of being a part of Grand Avenue — One community of neighbors and business owners. Shane and I have both been active on the board at one time or another and we have gained so much knowledge from the other business owners along the avenue.  This is what helped shape our real estate team.

What do like about being a member of the Grand Avenue Business Association?
As a small family owned business along the Grand Avenue, GABA has helped us grow our business over 20 percent per year over the past 5 years. The monthly networking events, the website, the consumer events (Grand Old Days, Paws on Grand, Grand Meander and Boo Fest) and the advocacy with the City of Saint Paul  have all given our business exposure that we could not do on our own.  Thank you GABA for your continued support!
